The city of Erlangen, first mentioned in 1002 B.C., with its 111,000 inhabitants (as of 2016), is located in the center of Bavaria. Influenced by the arrival of the Huguenots in the 17th century, the "Savoir Vivre", the romantic, french flair of the city is kept until today. The magnificent, baroque architecture of the city center, the numerous squares and alleys with cozy cafes, small shops and restaurants invite you to stroll and linger. The Huguenot Church and the Margrave's Castle with Orangery, Concord Church and the castle garden give the city its special charme.

Erlangen – city of science
Even off the well-known Bergkirchweih (annual beer festival), in the evening the numerous pubs are populated mainly by dozens of students. In addition to the french style Erlangen gained an academic, international flair. The Middle Franconian city stands for science and education: With almost 40,000 students, the Friedrich-Alexander-University Erlangen-Nuermberg is the largest university in northern Bavaria. In addition, the Fraunhofer Institutes, the Max Planck Institute for the Physics of Light, Siemens AG, Areva NP GmbH, the renowned clinic and numerous high-tech companies make Erlangen to the top business location and science city of northern Bavaria in the middle of the metropolitan region of Nuremberg.

Erlangen - conference venue
The annual conference of the DPG and the spring conference of the section AMOP take place in the heart of Erlangen's city center. In the immediate vicinity of the castle garden, most sessions are located in and around the historic Kollegienhaus. Other localities can be reached on foot within a few minutes, either through the castle garden or along the Universitätsstraße with its impressive baroque buildings.
